Loessin Herefords: Our Cattle |
Our cattle herd descends primarily from Line One and Mark Donald bloodlines with some Canadian outcross features. We are still a small boutique herd but are constantly seeking to acquire additional animals that fit our breeding program. Our philosophy is that we would rather have fewer but better animals and raising registered stock for the sake of volume is unimportant when compared to breeding quality. We hope that you agree and understand that when an animal traces its origins to our herd, there is something special about that animal. Pictured below is one of our favorite cows. "2155" is only a four year old with her first calf at her side. This picture of "2155" was taken at the same time she was nursing a nearly 500-pound calf. We AI-bred her to GH Buck ET 26H for her second calf and you've already met the Buckaroo! She weighs in at 1900 pounds and we expect great things from her. As for her disposition--she is not just docile, she is completely tame. Her EPD's may seem rather average, but make no mistake--she is a great cow and raises great calves. She is a very heavy milker with a good udder and feet. We are very excited about her future. Cows like this do not come around very often!
DHR 5011 MISS DOM VOLTAGE 2155 (42375273) Her lineage is superior. Her sire descends from Star Mark 300C (paternally) and the Bar Pipe Admiral (maternally). Her dam descends from LCI Super Volt 15W (paternally) and L1 Pacesetter (maternally). And if that was not enough, three of her four great-grand-dams descend from the legendary bull, Lerch (BLR C L1 Domino 5109)! She's exactly what we like! Here is our big addition from last year...she's five years old, almost 2000 lbs. , with extreme length and ready for AI around the first of the year! We'll keep you posted! DHR 5131E LADY L1 MARK 059 (42248981)
And here is our "big heifer." She is polled and currently measures in at a massive 8.1 frame score. She is 54 inches at the hip at 22 months and weighs in at 1550. We will eventually AI her to KCF Bennett 9126J P18 perhaps after her first calf by our L72 bull. Her EPD's coupled with Bennett's will yield a spectacular calf when the time comes.
