thirty scholars headed by Robert Funk began the Jesus Seminar, a collaborat=
ive

</span>The purpose of this group was to separate the Jesus of history, the
human figure, from the Christ of faith, the Jesus of the Christian traditio=
n,
to reconstruct the historical Jesus based on its conclusions, and to share =
its

</span>Fellows (members) of the Seminar research and study Jesus&#8217; wor=
ds
and actions in the gospels, then, after debating their conclusions, vote on
their opinions of the degree of the authenticity of Jesus&#8217; words or
deeds.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>This scholarly and
controversial group has brought much division to the field of historical Je=
sus
research in its methodology, intent, and presentation; yet its purpose of
exploring the Jesus of history through scholarly methods is an important
contribution to the growing field of historical Jesus research. <o:p></o:p>=
